This list was established around 200 B.C. by various authors. We don't know who was the first one to draw up such a list, but nowadays, Philo of Byzantium's list is the most commonly accepted ;
- The Great Pyramid of Giza (the only one that still remains)
- The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
- The Artemis temple at Ephesus
- the Statue of Zeus at Olympia
- The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
- The Colossus of Rhodes
- The Lighthouse at Alexandria
In the text, they are referred to as "sights", or literally "things to be seen" ; the purpose was indeed to give Greek tourists a summary of the main places of interest in the world (for them, the Mediterranean Sea).
